Camp reading!

Hey guys! Welcome back to Term 4 :) This week since we are going to camp  next week we have been focusing on camp stories and create tasks.

Create tasks!

The first create task was to get a map sheet from your teacher and use coordinates to place drawings where they are meant to be. We had to draw on about 3 things and then use our smart brains to do the rest.

The second create task was to create a bunk label for your bunk room at camp! Write your name in any font and colour it in! P.S Mrs Lee wrote my name which is why it is awesome. P.S again Jaydah drew on my name so its not as awesome :)

The last create task was to create a poster on Piktochart about anything native to NZ. We got to pick a topic. Animal, Plants, Habitat, Threats and more! Once we picked a topic we had to pick what we were going to read about ex. Pohutakawa would be in plants.

Stories

This week for reading since we are going to camp next week we have been focusing on camp stories and maps! There were 3 stories we had to read. The first story was called danger man and was about these 4 kids that were very naughty. One night they sneaked out and found a flying fox over a lake. One of the kids went on it but it broke and the others had to go save him. They got to him an funnily enough the water was thigh high :D. So they all laughed but then were caught.

The second story was called School Camp Fun. It was about a girl going on camp for the first time. Her dad came along to help. They did fun things like roasting marshmallows. Swimming and having hot chocolate.

The third and final story was called Bush walk. It was about a group of kids on a hike at camp with their teacher. One kid was slowing the group down and his shoelaces kept coming undone! The teacher slipped and cut open his head...ouch. Luckily the slow boy knew where they were because he payed attention!

I hope you enjoyed my camp work and I will see you next week!

Have a good day

We didnt choose any books today but read about what the dragon symbolies in China, we read a book about a race between the animals to be first in the Chinese Zodiac calendar and we also read about the ledgend of the Chinese dragon. This was really fun to learn about and the tales are very interesting and cool! Thanks to this awesome week I learnt how the dragon was created and why. ( China tribes were fighting over their spirit which protected them. The kids were sick of it and together put body parts together to make a...DRAGON! ) . I learnt about the Chinese zodiacs and I also am learning how to spell my name in Chinese.

Create task 1:

Choose your fav scene from the race and make a 5 piece comic strip.

The Creation of Night and Day....

WALT: Analyse and evaluate the actions and story lines of Maori myths and ledgends

Hey guys! This week and last week, to celebrate Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori, for reading we have been focusing on Maori myths and legends. I chose the book, The creation of night and day. This book was about how the Maori think the world was created. Papatuanuku and Ranginui were lying on top of each other bringing darkness upon the world/them. Tāne Mahuta pushed them apart with his legs and brought light into the world. It was really interesting and was fun to learn about. I hope you enjoy my Maori work!

Create task 1:
Analyse your story. Who are the characters? Where was it set? What is the problem? What are some of the actions in your story? How did it end? How were the characters feeling?

Create task 2:
How do you feel about the decisions your character/s made? Give 3 reasons why you agree or disagree about this statement.

Create task 3:
Create a glossary for the Maori words in your book. Once you have done that, turn it into a animation and publish to your blog.

Anne Frank!

WALT: Locate and summarise important information from a range of related texts.

Hey guys! We have been focusing on inspirational people. This week we were given the same book choices as last week. This week I chose to read about Anne Frank. I really enjoyed learning about Anne Frank and how she is informational. I think Anne  Frank was very brave for what she did. She was Jewish and was alive during World War ll. You may know about Adolf Hitler and how he pretty much started World War ll. Anne Frank and her family were scared and fled the country to hide in Holland. She lived in a house, went to school and had friends! But then Hitler came to Holland. Anne Frank hid in a attic with the help of other people. She wrote in a diary about her feelings. NOW! Before I get carried away, my 1st create task explains the whole story. I give this book a 5/5! This was one of the most interesting journal I have ever read. How would you feel if you were there for World War ll?'

Create Task 1: How do your 3 texts link together? Fill in all 3 columns with your 3 texts. How do your other 2 texts help you connect with your main story?

I have highlighted what I think connects my 2 texts with my main story.

Create task 2: Create a fact file on the person you are reading about. How is your main character a inspiration? Choose 5 inspirational things about your person and present it on a DLO.

Create task 3: Come up with your own Inspirational definition and how you can be a inspiration. Then come up and create your own inspirational poster.

How would you feel if you were in WWII? I would feel TERRIFIED! I hope you enjoyed this post and learnt something new :)

I have a dream - Martin Luther King

Hey guys! This week for reading we are focusing on famous people. I chose to learn about Martin Luther King jr! MLK jr was a powerful speaker and protested against the laws for black and white people. Example: Black people had to give up their seats for white people and couldn't go swimming or to the same school as white people! I really liked learning about MLK jr because I believe that everyone should be treated equally!

Create task 1:

How do your three texts connect? ( Book, Challenge and Complementary )

Fill in the 3 boxes!

Create task 2:
Create a fact file on the person you are reading about and then create a DLO on why they were inspirational!

Create task 3:
What does inspirational mean? Write the definition of inspiration/inspirational in your own words. Then create an inspiring poster!

Meaning:

Poster:

Do you think that everyone should be treated equally? I do! Comment down below some feedback for what I can do next week! I enjoyed learning about Martin Luther King and creating my own inspirational poster. I found create task 2 the hardest because it took a little longer than expected and creating the fact file was hard! In my opinion. I learnt about Martin Luther King Jr and how he  stood up for what is right! I loved all of these create tasks so thanks to my wonderful teachers!

Matariki reading!

WALT: Ma whero, Ma pango, ka oti ai te mahi. With red and black the work will be complete

Tena Koe! This week for reading we have been focusing on Matariki. We have learnt many things and stories. The first thing we had to do was:

Must do: Watch and read the 4 texts and videos. Write down the facts.

Can do: Choose from, Animation, Word find, Tawhirimatea or a Venn diagram. We had to choose 2 of these tasks.

I chose to do the word find and read the story of Tawhirimatea. For the word find, I had to find all the words and give each word the definition.

Create task 1/Must do:

Video #1:

  • Sisters are fighting

  • Papatuanuku and Ranginui.

  •  Kei tango tango and Wainui are the parents of Matariki.

  • Matariki is a family of stars.

  • Matariki are 7 sister stars.

  • Pouanaga, the red star, thinks the sisters are annoying

  • Tukurua, the blue star, tells the sisters to calm down.

  • The parents overhear what the red star and blue star are saying about their daughters.

  • They needed to calm them. Kei Tango tango, the father, said that they should give the sisters an important task.

  • To be the sign for a new year.

  • Matariki, the oldest, calls on her sisters. Waiti, Waita, Waipuna-rangi, Tupu-a-nuku, Tupu-a-rangi and Ururangi.

  • The sisters are given their responsibilities and come together.

  • It is bad luck if you can not see the 7 sisters.

  • But it is good luck when you can see them clearly, sparkling in the sky.

Video #2:

  • Matariki is also the name of the Maori new year.

  • They disappear into the night sky in late April.

  • The stars appear again in late May or early June.

  • When the stars appear and the new moon has risen, the Maori new year has begun.

  • In some stories Matariki is known as the biggest star.

  • Matariki has other names like the 7 sisters.

  • Matariki is the eldest sister and guides her younger sisters to their places in the sky

  • The old stories also tell us that when the stars shine brightly, the year will be warm and good for growing crops.

  • Also that there will be plenty of seafood to gather. Plants will grow tall and strong.

  • We can celebrate Matariki in many ways

  • It is a time for sharing family stories, for learning about the land and how to look after it. It is a time for hearing stories about the old days.

  • For learning about how the people used the stars in the past. It is a time to plant trees and winter crops. It is a time to fish and gather kaimoana.

  • It is a time for making things. To learn how to weave and carve. It is a time for making and flying kites.

  • Matariki is a time to make plans for the future and to forgive and forget problems of the past.

  • It's a time to enjoy with your family and friends.

Te Papa Website:

  • Not all iwi celebrate Matariki at the same time.

  • Some may celebrate on the first full moon or the next new moon.

Celebrating Puanga at Ramanui:

If you live in Taranaki it is hard to see the Matariki because its very low in the eastern sky

The students of Ramanui have invited their friends and family to join them in a feast.

They end up hearing a mihi and a karakia, kapa haka and eating Hangi.

P.S: My version is underneath the original!

The Wonky Donkey!

WALT: Make connections between ourselves, other texts and the world.  I think thats the WALT means to connect to something in the book that you have experienced or can relate to. For other texts, I think it means to remember or recognize something in the book you read and a different book. I think the world means to connect to something that you have seen or heard about in the world.

Hey guys! This week for reading we were focusing on some of our teachers childhood favourite books. We got to choose from, Hairy Maclary, Where the wild things are, Wonky Donkey, You are special, Pigasso meets Mootise, The empty pot, The bad case of stripes and The tale of Peter Rabbit. I chose the story, The Wonky Donkey. It was about a donkey that was very different. He was tall and slim, smelly but cool and was always getting into mischief! This was a very fun post and fun book. I enjoyed all the create tasks. I hope you enjoy this post and learn something new!

Create task 1:

Make connections between with your journal and yourself, another text or movie and then the world.

Create task 2:
Create a Venn Diagram comparing your main character with another main character from one of the other texts.

Create task 3:
From one of the connections in create task 1, in your world section, pick a connection you made. Then expand on that connection.

Wonky Donkey

Making connections to the world.

My chosen connection: Donkeys are illegally being captured and killed for Chinese medicine

Why have you chosen this connection? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.

Who is involved?

  • African countries, Brazil, Pakistan and China.

What happened?

  • China and all of the other countries are capturing and killing donkeys to make medicine for China’s medicine market.

Where did it happen?

  • China

Why did it happen?

  • Because China needed medicine for their medicine market.

When did it happen?

  • This started in 1992

Websites that I used…

  1. Google

  2. Google Drawing ( Create task 1 )

Did you know about the donkey medicine that is being made. Please comment down below your answer. The hardest part was probably trying to finish everything in time or create task 4 which sadly i have not started yet. But this post was still really fun!
I hope you enjoyed this post!

It was set in Samoa and Tonga. The problem was a small earthquake hit and then when it ended, on they way to school the Tsunami struck. The solution to my problem was Niko saw Ana’s bun stick out of the water. She was saved and so was the rest of the family. I hope you enjoy my work!

WALT: Use prior knowledge when making text-to-text connections

Create task 2 was to create a poster on how to survive the disaster in your story. Mine was Tsunamis.

It was set in Christchurch New Zealand, Ellie's house, the shops and school.

The problem was a giant earthquake happened and Ellie's house was in quite a bit of damage.

The solution was, fortunately there was not in to much damage, the engineers fixed the house, but not the garage, for it was to hard. Create task 2 was to make a poster about the tragic event in your story and what you could do if the event happened. Create task 3 was to get a sheet from the teacher and fill it out like you are a new reporter. The article will be about your event in your story. Once you finished that, you would put it onto the google drawing that the teachers linked to the site. Then once you filled out the info you could post!

I hope you enjoy my blog post and learn something about earthquakes! Enjoy!!!

My book was about an Alien named Ash, he was sent down to Earth by his leader to investigate humans and their planet for his leaders conquest. The first create task was to write down what the story was about, the characters, the setting and the problem and solution. Then we had to write down facts from the other two texts we read and listened to. (Complementary and Challenge). The second create task was to create a new ending for you book, then explain why you chose that ending. The third create task was to come up with 5 questions to ask Ash as if you were a police officer. Then we could post it on our blog! Which I am doing right now.
I hope you enjoy my create tasks and learn something about aLiEnS!
WALT: Evaluate ideas and information in a narrative text

Create task 1
If you cant read what is in the 1st create task it says:

My story was about an Alien named Ash, he was sent down to Earth by his leader to investigate humans and their planet for his leaders conquest. ( Blog description )

The characters were: Ash, a group of kids playing baseball and the Alien leader. The story is set in a baseball field. The problem that Ash was learning humans language and facing humans that he thought were vampires. To solve the problem, he started to write to his great leader to cancel the invasion, because Earth is to hard to investigate.

People think that Aliens are on Venus! Floating on clouds!!!

In 1967, Carl Sagan's suggested that the clouds on Venus could support alien life, and a team of scientists are backing this idea up with new info!

People say that Aliens are smart and could read our minds!

Scientists have not found aliens yet, but they listen for messages.

In 1947 a flying object crashed near Mexico.

Then the last box is my blog description

Create task 2

Create task 3

Do you know anything about Aliens? If you do comment down below what you know or what you learnt. I would love it if you gave me some feedback! So I can work on it next time so it is even better. I hope you enjoyed this post!

Reading T1W10 Wolves!

 Hey guys!

Welcome back to my blog.
On Wednesday for reading, I started on my reading create task. The book I chose to read about was Wolves!
The first task was to make a quiz on your animal. To make it you had to write down 15 - 20 questions on a google doc and then transfer them onto google slides or a Kahoot. I chose a Kahoot.
Then we had to create a Venn Diagram about the animal you read about this week and the animal you read about last week, but because I was not here I had to pick a different book. I chose to compare a panda to a wolf because I wanted to find out how similar pandas and wolves are.
If you dont know what a Venn Diagram is, it is 2 circles overlapping each other, on the sides you write down the differences of the 2 topics, then where the circles are overlapping you write the similarities.
I really enjoyed learning about wolves and making a quiz about them. I found the Venn diagram hard because I couldn't find much similarities between Pandas and Wolves. This was an awesome reading task and I had a lot of fun making it. I hope you enjoy my work!

WALT: Summarise info by identifying the key words in a text

I am not able to link my kahoot but if you search up ¨Wolves¨ in Kahoot search you may be able to find my kahoot.

Here is a sample question:

What are baby wolves called? Babies, Pups, Munchkins or Kittens?

So sorry I could not link my kahoot :(

Venn Diagram:

Do you know any other facts about Wolves? If you do comment down below, or just comment what you learnt. I hope you enjoyed this post! Please give me some feedback on what I could do next time!
